The City of Los Angeles California, had, for decades, required that the building contractors responsible for laying sidewalks, imprint their names in the concrete. Hence the title of this weblog: Written In Stone. A canting jest on monuments engraved with important people or events.

The photographs are a representative sample of sidewalk impressions taken in the area bounded by Wilshire Boulevard on the south, Vermont Avenue on the east, Vine Street on the west and Franklin Avenue and Los Feliz Boulevard on the north.

This survey is not meant to be authoritative and others wishing to post are welcome to do so, as long as the photos are VGA standard quality. Each picture should be no greater than 60 kB.
